Steve has always pursued an ethos of innovation in spatial visualisation and communication since he started working in GIS in the early 1990’s. The communication of ideas and data is central to many of our clients. Using our combination of clear thinking and computer graphics to explain complicated issues simply and quickly, we have helped our clients to rapidly communicate complex ideas, both big and small. The office is surrounded by 3 fig trees. A few years ago Steve was staring out of the window looking for inspiration... It is as simple as that...
3Figs has many years of experience in website design, construction and management, together with work on educational CD Rom’s and Intranet systems. Steve has 15 years of experience at the cutting edge of environmental GIS and 3D modelling. He cut his teeth working on GIS for British Antarctic Survey in the mid 1990's, before working at CASA, where he was a senior researcher and the main driver behind many academic and commercial GIS and 3D GIS projects, including demos of his work (Virtual London) to showcase the 3D power of ESRI 'ArcGlobe' software, at the 2004 ESRI International Conference. He has written a range of papers and articles on 3D GIS, land use and transport planning, environmental GIS including 3 chapters in the book Advanced Spatial Analysis.
In 2000 he set up Plannet Visualisations Ltd as a three-way partnership and the company was very successful in delivering 3D models, GIS and CGI animations to the games industry, local government, television and architectural firms. All this was at a time when the bursting of the dot.com bubble meant that some clients were wary of yet another Internet company peddling new innovations.
In 2006, with the need for greater equality, autonomy and fresh ideas, Steve resigned from Plannet.
3Figs is a small outfit, but one that works closely with other small companies and suppliers. This means we can assemble a larger team of consultants and a wider spectrum of skills if a client requires this, or for smaller jobs, we can be very nimble and versatile.
Although we are not certified as ISO 14001 compliant (environmental certification), we maintain an extremely low carbon footprint, and this is something we are intensley proud of. Read more...
